| As most of you probably
already know, I was diagnosed with thyroid
cancer in October of 2000. I immediately turned
to the scriptures
several times a day about his promises to us his
children and about healing. As I have told many
friends who have called me, God gave me a peace
about my illness that even I did not understand.
My first report came back saying that I had Medullary
Carcinoma, a very rare and aggressive thyroid
cancer. The doctors and pathologist were puzzled
because my blood work was normal.(Praise the
Lord!) This went on for several weeks and in
between my two surgeries, Jim and I flew to
Jacksonville, FL where the group was singing.
There was a lady at the church who ministered to
me, and told me I would get a better report. Two
days after we came home, my doctor called and
said the cancer was not the kind they thought it
was. The Thyroid Foundation had determined it was
Follicular cancer, a much more treatable
kind.(We serve an awesome God) I did not know
until much later that the mass on my thyroid did
not have cancer in it, but the cancer was
isolated in another little spot sealed up in a
capsule of healthy tissue. The doctor was baffled
and amazed at my case. He kept talking about the
"man upstairs". After the second
surgery something happened to my vocal chords, I
could only speak in a whisper for several days.
My voice is gradually coming back and I know that
God will give complete healing in his own time.
Update: My voice has been restored and I am
cancer free. From the
very beginning, I realized this was a test of
faith. So I decided that if God could save a
sin-sick soul, surely he could take care of me.
It was and is a time for me to stand on what I
Believe. For me this could be just a detour
or maybe an interruption in my life. After all Christians
Sail under Sealed Orders, we find
God's will as we are on the way.
My family has been a steady
force behind me, and my life has been incredibly
touched by the prayers of people who have
interceded for me.
I have found great truths in
favorite passages of God's Word, such as:
Jer. 30:17 For I will
restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of
thy wounds, saith the Lord.
Psalms 107:20 He sent his
word, and healed them, and delivered them from
their destructions.
And my favorite:
Psalms 91:1-2 He that
dwelleth in the secret place of the most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I
will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my
fortress: my God in him will I trust.
